The RF4CE (Radio Frequency for Consumer Electronics) industry consortium has been formed to develop a new protocol that will further the adoption of radio frequency remote controls for audio visual devices.
The main advantage of RF4CE is that it ensures interoperability between remote controls and audio/visual (A/V) devices that IR never achieved. The RF4CE standard will:
- Offer a mechanism for secure transactions.
- Implement power save mechanism for power efficient implementations.
- Implement simple and intuitive pairing mechanism.
- Allow for vendor specific applications/transactions.
- Be able to support different applications.
